The Aftermath

The results for the May 2015 Civil Service Examination are in and with it came a roller coaster of emotions for me.

I was really happy for those who passed, but I can’t shake off the weight of knowing that there were people who didn’t make it. Nagulat rin ako sa depth ng emotions at anxiety na idinulot ng pag-aabang at paghahanap ng results sa akin. When I took the exam, I didn’t care as much. In fact, everyone knew the results before I bothered to look. Pero this time was different. I wanted my students to pass way more than I wanted to pass when I took the exam. That’s why malalim talaga ang lungkot na nararamdaman ko thinking about those who wanted, and even needed, to pass and didn’t.

Pero di naman dapat na huminto na tayo ngayon. This is as true for those who passed as it is for those who didn’t. This is NOT the end. Simula pa lang ito.

Here are some things that I want you all to know.

Sa mga pumasa, this can be the beginning of a promising future in civil service for you. If you’re not yet working for a government agency, maybe it’s time for you to work in one. Update your resume. Put the word out there that you’re eligible. Be wise in choosing the path you’re going to take. I’ll pray for God’s wisdom to be with you and for Him to guide you sa kung saan kayo pupunta.

Those who are already working for a government office, make sure that your HR Department knows that you’re already eligible. Ask them to update your file. Tell your boss. Make sure that your name is on the list the next time may bukas na regular position.

I don’t ask for money or anything in exchange sa mga ginawa ko for this team. Pero if you want to repay me, this is what I want… serve our country and our countrymen well. Be the kind of public servant who gives back to the people. Pay my good deed forward.

Sa mga hindi pa pumasa, I know na malungkot kayo right now. You may feel disappointed, frustrated even, lalo na if hindi ninyo first time to take the exam. Pero I urge you not to be so sad about it. The good thing about the Civil Service Exam is that you can take it again. There’s another Paper and Pencil Test on October. You can sign up for that.

Use the time mula ngayon until then to prepare even better. I won’t stop making stuff to help you out as long as there’s someone who needs me out there. Be more involved sa process. Ask yourself kung saan ka pinaka-nachallenge sa exam and let me know so I can make a video on that. Punta ka sa susunod na meet up natin.

Hindi lahat nakakapasa sa una, pangalawa, or even pang-sampung subok. If you’re reading this and retaker ka bago pumasa, can you post a comment below para ma-encourage yung mga di pa nakapasa to take the exam uli?

You’re not alone.

I asked my younger sister to make this for you, Team Lyqa.

This picture features two of my favorite verses in the Bible which my sister turned into beautiful calligraphy pieces. I’ll focus on the one in the frame.

It’s from Jeremiah 29:11, and it says,

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Whether pumasa ka ngayon or hindi, this promise rings true for you. The Lord knows kung ano ang plano Niya para sa buhay mo. It may not look too good right now, pero I hope you believe that He has an even more beautiful and bigger plan for you.

Wag kayong susuko, Team Lyqa. The same God who helped me top the exam, the same God who helped your teammates pass the last exam, will help you pass in His perfect time. Believe in Him. Keep studying, keep learning, keep working at your test-taking skills. He will pull you through.
